Fight flight — Those of you old enough to recall the Vietnam era may remember a notion floated at that time in the form of a question that asked, "What if they held a war and nobody showed up?" As the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan sink deeper into the mire, that question is gaining renewed interest, especially since now, unlike the bad old days, there is no draft going on. In an attempt to help keep people from signing away their lives on the dotted line, the Campus Progressive Network at Ypsilanti’s Eastern Michigan University will be staging a series of protests at the Ann Arbor recruiting station, 4695 Washtenaw Ave. The protests will be held on Saturdays, June 11, July 9, and Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. E-mail [email protected]. Transit hubbub — A series of public hearings will be held regarding the proposed Detroit Intermodal Freight Terminal (DIFT). The hearings, according to the Michigan Department of Public Transportation, will allow the public to comment on an environmental impact study that evaluates the "economic, social and environmental" factors related to the controversial facility. The public hearings held from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, June 13, through Thursday, June 16, at various locations in Detroit and Dearborn.
