If you like a home with an airy feeling, you might be interested in this place at 12274 Grandmont. Since it has no roof, the home offers an unobstructed view of the sky. Adding to the feeling of spaciousness is the absence of doors and windows. Trash cans and old tires littering the property add to the ambience.
“Somebody threw a bomb in there about two or three years ago,” says a neighbor who did not want to give her name for fear of retaliation.
The Abandoned Structure Squad (aka A.S.S.) has been keeping an eye on this place since early December, when we were told by a helpful person in Detroit’s Buildings & Safety Engineering Department that the home had been placed on the emergency demolition list. Clearance to shut off utility service to the home was still being sought, however, and until that happened the building couldn’t be demolished. When we checked back last week, the place was still standing. Barely.
