Neighborhood organizations are good things. They reduce crime, encourage beautification and bring people together. Even though this home, located at 11375 Evanston, falls just outside the bounds of the Evanston Block Club, a neighborhood organization that serves a group of houses just a few hundred feet away, it still has to rankle the neighborhood. The surrounding area is composed mainly of homes that are well-tended and structurally sound, but in almost every block there is an abandoned home that stands out like a bright red pimple on an otherwise unblemished face. In this case there are two such houses. Another boarded-up structure sits right next to the Abandoned Structure Squad’s pick of the week. The house apparently had been condemned as unsafe, but an adventurous buyer just purchased the property through ReMax. The property includes a detached garage and is on Detroit’s east side near Conner and I-94. It just goes to show, when it comes to homes on the ASS list, hope springs in the unlikeliest of places.
