7 FRI • ISSUES & LEARNING Symposium on Assisting Victims of Torture— Presented by the A.C.C.E.S.S. (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services), the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Student Center will host its annual symposium on human suffrage. Panel discussions will include presentations from experts in the medical, legal, social and mental health fields, and there will also be testimonies from three survivors of torture. Attendees will also be able to experience an exhibition of artwork from Iraqi refugees and survivors of torture. 8 SAT • MUSIC Larry Nozero/Peter Soave New Piazzolla Project —After infiltrating jazz for years, the Argentine nuevo tango seems near a tipping point. Tango-tinged discs are hitting the racks, and locally there’s the group led by saxophonist Larry Nozero and bandoneon player Peter Soave with pianist Tad Weed, bassist Peter Dominguez and drummer Alex Trajano. A modernistic twist makes room for improvising in this style pioneered by the late Astor Piazzolla.
