Manny and the Mirror has returned to the Detroit stage, charged and ready to roll after a short sojourn in an extended form. The opera, which tells of the unusual relationship between a boy, his girlfriend and a dead brother, walks the line between fantasy and reality and invites the audience to wonder: "Which line should he cross?" Apparently, this legendary rambler carried a sketchbook with him wherever he and his loyal minions roamed. And although many folks don’t know that he was a student at the San Francisco Art Institute before becoming a professional musician, Garcia’s work as a painter/cartoonist is as trippy as the music for which he is most famous.
