Molly Burch often warns that she is a nervous person — no, like, actual anxiety, which is something the Austin-based singer is forced to daringly shed when she’s delivering her smoky vocals over sweetly sad, in-and-out of love songs. One could compare her 2017 debut, Please Be Mine to Zooey Deschanel in its twangy, nostalgic, forlornness, or to Angel Olsen for her sparseness. But the classically trained jazz vocalist finds her own formula — equal parts heartbroken and hopeful — on last year’s First Flower. Sharing the bill are Bunny and Alyssa Wettlaufer.

Molly Burch and guests will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at PJ's Lager House; 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit; 313-961-4668; pjslagerhouse.com. Tickets are $12-$14.
