City Slang: Satori Circus celebrates silver anniversary

Detroit’s favorite clown outside of ICP, Satori Circus, will celebrate his 25th anniversary on Friday, January 24 with a performance art piece called “63 Mins (Of Random Balance)” at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

“‘63 Mins (of Random Balance)’ is an entirely new performance piece, with all original words and music. Unlike SATORI CIRCUS’ performances of the past 15 years, ‘63 Mins (of Random Balance)’ returns to the child-like days of the late 80s and early 90s when SATORI CIRCUS was cutting his teeth creating performances for the stage, developing pieces like a rock band’s set list, where each piece is unique and stands alone in its conceptual presentation. Every piece has its own story, its own momentum, and its own character.”

They say, “Collaborating with friends Brian and Dave Dambacher, with whom SATORI CIRCUS worked on the featured performance art piece, ‘FUNY AS HELL: a baptism under fire’ in 2007 at MeadowBrook/Oakland University and again in 2008 at Yale University in New Haven CT, well, they’re back! This time they’re joined by a talented group of performers, including Detroit’s hardest working showgirl, Lushes LaMoan, and the lead singer of the Stoned, Scott Dambacher. Other, key contributors to this anniversary performance are Sarah Pearline (production design), Sean Redenz (video/film production), Andrew Lloyd (bass), Dan Chapa (drums), Lee Galbraith (guitar) and Sadaat Hossain (keyboards).”

The event is free, but there are only two performances. One is at 6:30, the second at 8:30.
