City Slang: Detroit Rocks in Birmingham

It took two years but it’s finally out. Detroit Rocks: A Pictorial History of Detroit Rock and Roll by Gary Grimshaw and Leni Sinclair features, say they, “the best of Gary's artwork and Leni's photographs from 1965 to 1975, including many never-before or rarely seen photos and much of Gary's artwork that hasn't been seen in the past 30 or 40 years. Besides Gary's better-known Grande Ballroom posters, it includes many designs for flyers, book, magazine and LP covers, bumper stickers, business cards and much more.”

A special book launch party will be held at the Lido Gallery in Birmingham on Friday, September 28. On the bill will be ML Liebler & Coyote Monk Poetry Band featuring Grammy winning Eminem producer and bassist Steve King, the Blue Room guitarist Charlie Palazzola, Frankie the K on the keys, Eddie Baranek from the Sights and the Dangerous Diane Band, and 54 Sound drummer Leonard Johnson.

It should be a great night, and a fitting way to celebrate the release of a book that has seen Leni Sinclair and Gary Grimshaw work like crazy to raise the funds and make the release a reality. Congrats, guys.
