City Slang: Sponge to perform Rotting Piñata in its entirety

The Detroit rockers of Sponge will perform their debut Rotting Piñata album from beginning to end for the first time ever at the Emerald Ballroom in Mount Clemens on Jan. 28. Doors are at 8, and tickets cost $15 in advance. Support comes from Amy Gore & Her Valentines, plus others to be announced.

Rotting Piñata is, of course, the album that put Sponge all over the airwaves internationally, thanks to hit singles like “Plowed” and “Molly (16 Candles)”. See Sponge perform the latter on the Conan O’Brien Show in ‘96 here.

According to the press release, “After the Emerald Theatre performance - Sponge will perform an intimate SECOND (and possibly THIRD) show inside the Emerald Theatre's Rock Room, playing hits from the band's 6 CD catalog.  Admission for these shows is by donation with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting local Susan G. Komen 3- Day walking team ‘Trekking for Ta-Tas.’”
