The Boss Mustangs’ self-titled CD (Spinout Records) is absolutely superb. The Grand Rapids-based band had Jim Diamond master the album and nobody knows noisy garage rock better. The songs are incredible, and the energy is unrelenting. Go hear, now.
Widetrack sent us two CDs this week, their self-titled 2007 debut and the 2009 follow up, Widetrack II (self-released). The band was founded up muso and producer Ron Tippin, and both albums are packed with radio-friendly rock that seems to be influenced by everyone from Muse to the Stone Temple Pilots. The songs are fun, though the production is a little too clean for these ears. If that sounds like your bag, knock yourself out.
Heavy as fuck trance rockers Warhorses sent over a new song this week, “Move”. It’s hella good too – pulsing beats and loops, snarly vocals and an evil vibe. Love it.
Half Light Music emailed over their forthcoming EP. Here’s a warning – this won’t be for everyone. The songs are very safe and mainstream-ready. However, they get away with it thanks to a healthy amount of genuine passion and some hard riffing.
