Back in April of this year, I wrote a piece about a benefit show for Drew Podgorski, the singer and guitarist from local punk bands Running With Panthers and Just Ask. Podgorski had suffered a stroke and was (and is) battling heroically through his tough-as-fuck rehabilitation.
I met Drew through a huge stroke of fortune. I had taken a job as a copy writer with an advertising agency (a whole other story), and Podgorski was at the same place – a fellow freak in a corporate world. My instincts were correct too - since leaving that world, Podgorski has stayed in touch with me despite his medical problems.
So anyway, on Saturday night I bumped into Drew in Ferndale. It’s a pleasure to report that the man is doing incredibly well. There’s still a cane, but he’s obviously getting close to throwing it away. His good lady, Natalie, has, he says, been his rock throughout the whole shitty experience.
