Choice Hotels sets its sights on a new downtown Detroit location

Downtown Detroit is getting another luxury hotel, this time from Choice Hotels International and Troy-based developer Koucar Management.

The Cambria will be located at 600 W. Lafayette Boulevard, Choice Hotels International announced Thursday. The hotel chain hopes to have the 154 room hotel operational in 2020.

The move is made as part of a strategic development plan in specific markets. The Cambria Hotel also announced plans to develop a location in Portland, Maine, by 2021. The upscale hotel chain currently operates in more than 40 markets, including popular U.S. cities like Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, and Philadelphia, among others.

The Cambria will feature a long list of amenities including a rooftop bar, rooftop pool and spa services, state of the art fitness center, and dining options from a celebrity chef featuring freshly made food, craft cocktails, and local Michigan beers on tap.

The property will sit adjacent to the neighboring Hilton DoubleTree Suites hotel. The Cambria will join the ranks of recently opened luxury hotels including Element Hotel, The Siren Hotel, and Shinola Hotel, which all opened downtown in 2018.
