Detroit artists come together at Tangent Gallery to support wheelchair-bound artist Ron Zakrin

Frida Kahlo once said, “I am happy to be alive as long as I can paint.” The same can be said for local painter and musician Ron Zakrin, who suffered an accident last year that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. Though Zakrin’s road to rehabilitation appears to be a long one, the Detroit artist community has rallied together for an event to make his life a little easier.

The Art-A-Thon will auction works from 25 local artists to support his expenses associated with making his home ADA-compliant, including ramps, widening doorways, as well as medical and household expenses. Jerry Vile, Julie Fournier, Gwen Joy, Michelle Tanguay, and Brian Rozman are among the artists auctioning original works and the evening will host performances by Audra Kubat and DJ sets from John Ryan and Bill Spencer B2B Geoffrey LaRue.
