Izakayas are Japanese-style gastropubs that are increasingly popular in the U.S. Eater reports that Katsu will feature a traditional yakitori charcoal grill used for preparing skewered meats, small plates, a selection of noodle bowls, and a full bar stocked with Japanese beer, sake, and spirits. The bar will remain open until 2 a.m.
The space will seat around 50 people at communal tables, booths, and a tatami-inspired eating area. Katsu's exterior will feature a pathway that co-owner Joshua Chiatovich says will be decorated to feel “like an old Japanese street."
He's partnering with investors and restaurateurs Roy Chen and Katsu Yama. Yama's "Katsu" brand has locations in Vietnam, Japan and other Asian countries.
The izakaya is part of a three new businesses planned for a recently-renovated building at 5063 Trumbull Ave.
