“For every day they’ll try and drag us down/ I cry with anger, I have done no crime,” sings Mike Peters on the Alarm’s 35-year-old chart-topper “68 Guns” — a battle cry track that feels pretty damn relevant today.

Initially formed as punk outfit the Toilets, Peter’s quickly reworked the band’s sound, which landed gigs with U2 and Bob Dylan. In 2005, the Alarm made a brief comeback before Peters announced a rare cancer diagnosis. Since then, cancer-free Peters has founded the Love Hope Strength Foundation (one of the world’s leading rock ’n’ roll cancer foundations) and is now heading a new lineup.

The Alarm will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at the Magic Bag; 22920 Woodward Ave., Ferndale; 248-544-1991; themagicbag.com; Tickets are $28.
