Stroh Brewing Company is rolling out a new summer brew, “Spirit Witbier," that will be available through September. The wheat beer is brewed at Brew Detroit and contains 4.2 percent ABV.

"The flavors of coriander, and the balanced addition of sweet and bitter orange peel make this pale, hazy wheat beer the perfect summer brew," the company says in a release.

Spirit Wit has begun shipping to stores throughout Michigan, and will soon be available on draft and in 12-ounce bottles at select bars.

The bottles' label includes an illustration of downtown Detroit's Joe Louis fist that Stroh's says complements its motto, “with the heart of a lion, and the strength of Detroit we are still here, still brewing.”

It’s the third new recipe for Stroh’s since the brand returned to Detroit in 2016, and follows the launch of Perseverance IPA earlier this year.

“Spirit Wit continues our tradition of celebrating the special people, places and pride of Detroit in each of our locally-brewed beers,” Andy Gurjian, Stroh’s brand manager, says in a release. “The beer’s label is inspired by The Fist monument to boxing legend Joe Louis in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, while the beer’s name reflects our dedication to highlighting the spirit of this great city we’re honored to call home.

Stroh's is holding a launch party at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6 with Slow Roll. The ride begins at Beacon Park at 1901 Grand River Ave., Detroit, and concludes with an after party at Brew Detroit, where Spirit Wit is on tap.

Each attendee will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for the chance to win an A-Type bike from Detroit Bikes with custom “Spirit Wit” paint work by local artist Zak Warmann of Detroit Sign Painters.
