Nothing says summer quite as clearly as barbecue and booze. Add music to the mix and you’ve got Pig & Whiskey — the annual Ferndale blowout co-produced by Metro Times and Woodward Avenue Brewers.

All are invited to fill up on the sweet and tangy offerings of more than 20 barbecue vendors, and wash it down with your choice of more than 60 liquors. Whether you cheer for beer, think of yourself as a straight shooter, or fancy yourself more of a cocktail king or queen, Pig & Whiskey is sure to quench your thirst.

Consider yourself a connoisseur? You can take a spin through the new Top Shelf Tent, where you’ll find more than 40 “top shelf” bourbons, scotches, and whiskeys to try. In addition, Cocktail Corner returns, with its rotating custom cocktails from local bars including Otus Supply, Wright & Co., Grey Ghost, Public House, Willis Show Bar, and more.

In this week’s issue, you’ll find a smattering of some of the best local barbecue joints — some of which will be featured at Pig & Whiskey. We also have a look at the festival’s full musical lineup, which includes Third Man Records’ Pokey LaFarge, Laith Al-Saadi, Bear vs. Shark, and Electric Six, among others. Dig in.

Event runs from 6 p.m.- midnight on Friday, July 13, 11 a.m.-midnight on Saturday, July 14, and 11 a.m.- 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 15; Downtown Ferndale on Nine Mile Rd. and E. Troy St.; pigandwhiskeyferndale.com; Event is free and open to the public.
