After teasing a Senate run of his own (and then later admitting it was all a joke), Kid Rock has officially re-entered politics — this time throwing his support behind Republican candidate John James.
The musician offered his endorsement for James at a Novi rally on Tuesday, where he also took time to apologize for his own misguided publicity stunt.
"You know, I was hearing from the White House weekly," he said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "There were governors and senators that endorsed me. There were people that wrote me letters from all over ... So to those people, I apologize."
With the elephant in the room addressed, Rock then offered his full support of James. "I hope you’ll also trust me when I say I’m 100 percent here to endorse and do everything I can to make sure John James gets into the U.S. Senate," he told the crowd of 1,000.
James describes himself as "a pro-business, pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative." An Iraqi War veteran, James was honorably discharged after an eight-year stint, and is now the president of James Group International, a group of supply chain and logistics companies.
At the rally, James pledged to bring God back in schools. "I understand what happens when you take God out of schools," he reportedly told the crowd, according to the Free Press. "The devil goes right in."
James is running for Democrat Debbie Stabenow's seat in November.
