Detroit's New Center Park summer movie lineup announced

Time to dust off the old picnic blanket — once again, Detroit's New Center Park will host its free summer-long film series.

In a city that has only one first-run theater and a handful of art house theatres, this is a big deal. Wednesday nights feature blockbusters and classics, while Fridays nights will offer more family-friendly flicks. Let's take a gander at this season's programming:

Wednesday Night Movies
Doors open at 8:00 p.m. and screenings begin between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., depending on sunset.

In addition to the films, the park will also host a number of theatrical and cultural events, including the Allied Media Conference kid's party on June 15, performances of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In The Heights from July 18 to 22, and the Detroit Caribbean Cultural Festival from Aug. 11 to 12.
