Of course it’s an honor just to be nominated, but let’s be real — winning a Detroit Music Award is pretty fucking cool, too.

The annual award show is now in its 27th iteration and will dole out more than 70 awards in 11 musical categories. Recipients are selected by local musicians and music industry professionals following an online vote, which occurs in phases. Sponge, Kash Doll, Frontier Ruckus, and Virginia Violet and the Rays are among the artists slated to perform. Melvin Davis and Songwriters Hall of Fame-inductee Allee Willis will also be honored during the ceremony.

The 2018 Detroit Music Awards will take place at The Fillmore on Friday, May 4; Doors open at 6 p.m.; 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit; 313-961-5451; thefillmoredetroit.com; Tickets start at $22.50.
