A local ice cream flavor is back to repair our roads and satisfy our sweet tooth all in the same bite.
National Coney Island has teamed up with Ashby's to resume selling the southeastern Michigan ice cream company's Michigan Pot Hole flavor. One percent of proceeds from the ice cream's sales at National locations go to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The ice cream is chocolate-based with a thick, black tar fudge layer and chunks of chocolate "asphalt," otherwise known as fudge cups. You can feel less guilty as you suck down a few scoops of the decadent dessert by knowing you're helping improve our infrastructure with each taste. (Though, to be fair, you'll only be helping a little bit — an Ashby milkshake costs about $3.69, so each one you drink sends less than 4 cents MDOT's way.)
National Coney Island offers the ice cream in a dish or blended as a milkshake. The ice cream made its return to the southeastern coney chain's menu this month.
