Gourmet hot dog peddler Doggy Style, A Red Hot Joint is now serving "fancy dogs," Frito pies, hot dog egg rolls, high-end sausages, and comfort foods in Waterford.
The shop is the latest project from Bread Basket Deli/Al's Famous Deli empire founder Al Winkler, who tells
Metro Times he set out to fill a hole in metro Detroit's gourmet hot dog market.
Doggy Style uses all-natural, all-beef, Sy Ginsberg-brand hot dogs that weigh in at a quarter of a pound and are char-grilled instead of steamed. The menu includes Big Apple Dog (sauerkraut and brown mustard), the Chicago Dog (tomatoes, diced onions, sport peppers, neon relish, pickles, mustard, and a dash of celery salt on a steamed poppyseed bun), or the Dog From Hell (spicy giardiniera pepper mix and coleslaw). On the side are comfort foods like mac and cheese, a Frito pie, and a new twist on Detroit's corned beef egg roll — the hot dog egg roll, which comes with a hot dog, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and stone ground mustard wrapped in an egg roll wrapper and deep fried.
Doggy Style is at 101 N. Telegraph Rd. near Elizabeth Lake.
