A pleasant 12-table lunch spot on the Corktown site formerly known as Eph McNally’s. Exceptionally friendly waitstaff, with delicious house-made quality and solid local products. The 24 sandwich selections include every good thing you can think of, including design-your-own options. Though the bread could be better, the salads are loaded but still green. You can also get an ice cream float with rich premium vanilla from Calder’s Dairy in Lincoln Park.
A Detroit classic - non-stop sports, burgers and brewskis. One block east of the old Tiger Stadium. Nemo's will provide shuttle service to all Red Wings and Tigers scheduled home games. Full lunch every day until 2:30 p.m.
It's a great name, but that's as far as it goes. O'Blivion's takes bar food to new lows. The Greek salad is mostly iceberg lettuce, the "awesomeburgers" are not. Friendly service and close to Tiger Stadium, though. *

Erin go drink up, Johnny!
Dead nuts in the middle of Corktown, the Lager House has perfected the marriage of old meets new. Even through its exodus from local lunchtime watering hole to rock 'n' roller's safe haven, the Lager has maintained its homespun charm. Cozy and inviting, it is still one of the best joints to guzzle Guinness on a crowded St. Patrick's parade day and is one of the few independent music venues not in the clutches of the Clear Channel PR machine. This little-bar-that-could proudly plays host to the ever-popular Monday dollar drink night and a never-ending turnstile of burgeoning rock acts. —Eve Doster

A few blocks west of Tiger Stadium, in a meticulously revamped 1880s building, Slows caters to a mix of hipsters, folks from area businesses, and suburban brewheads. Slows has excellent barbecue, a Mac and cheese that's a satisfying combination of sharp and creamy, and potato salad that could have come straight out of an Alabama picnic basket. There's a generous list of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and soups, including chili, and gumbo with andouille and shellfish.
