Belgian in Detroit

The concept is Belgian brewpub and the atmosphere is totally unpretentious, quirky and interesting. Belgian food is heavily influenced by Germany and France, and some of Bastone’s menu items are quintessential Belgian, such as moule (mussels), brandade de morue (puree of salt cod, potatoes and olive oil, a staple of the poor for centuries) and twice-fried Belgian frites served with mayonnaise.

Feather bowling is not the only draw to this Belgian cultural hub. Cadieux Cafe combines European flair with a unique menu, and the current owners have furthered the popularity by bringing in live musical acts and staying open until 2 a.m. daily (Midnight on Sundays). So whether you are in the mood for steamed mussels, Belgian beer or Elvis impersonators (sometimes), this is the place for you.

This underground lounge was designed after the turn of the century burlesque bars of Paris. Featuring the award winning craft brewed ales and lagers from its upstairs neighbor, Bastone, Commune boasts a warm environment in which to escape with friends. Weeknight events include Monday's Service Industry Night (25% off), Tuesday's Ladies Night ($3 pints, $5 wine, $5 martinis), Nintendo Wii Wednesdays ($9 pitchers, 50% off food) and AbsinTHursday where they mix up the newly legalized cocktail for $5.
