DTE and Consumers Energy are broken and dangerous. Is it time for publicly owned utilities? 

Graph (left) shows "System Average Interruption Duration Index" (SAIDI), or how long it takes utilities to return service once the power goes out after a “Major Event Day” (MED). The other shows the "Customer Average Interruption Duration Index" (CAIDI), or average number of minutes each utilities’ customers spend without power after an MED. Municipal utilities tend to perform best.
