In this adaptation of one of The Bard’s best comedies, we meet Roz and Celia, trapped on a farm with Celia’s bigoted father, Duke Frederick, and their strange farmhand Touchstone. They quickly decide they must flee to the magical City of Arden! Here they will meet an array of characters including angry drag queens, bawdy babes outside of the gender binary, haus mothers, and even DIVINE herself. In this whimsical queer rewrite of the hilarious classic, we see the persistence of chosen family, queer liberation, and the obvious fact that LOVE is LOVE!

Electric 6

Sat., Oct. 19, 8 p.m.
Small's 10339 Conant St., Hamtramck Hamtramck

Buy Tickets$16

This is a 20-year milestone double-whammy. Hamtramck bar Small’s and heavy hitting rock band Electric Six were both founded in 1999, and both are now institutions in their own rights. Small’s celebrated its big 2-0 with a birthday bash last month. Meanwhile, E6 celebrated by doing the only thing it knows how to do: by releasing another record of high-octane rock ’n’ roll. The band released its 14th (!) studio record, Bride of the Devil, last year, and it might be its most political record yet. Well, sort of. “The title track, a radio anthem, is where it all becomes clear that The Devil is a metaphor for Russia, and the United States is the young girl who is seduced, corrupted, and wedded into a Satanic covenant with the Beast,” a press release for the record reads. “It’s all there in black and white.” The band is making a Hamtramck stop as part of its “Russia, If You’re Listening Tour.” DaveTV, described as “a nostalgic video and audio dance music experience from E6 guitarist Da Ve” will start things off, and the night ends with Thirstwave, Small’s long-running alternative dance party.

Paint Thinner

Sat., Oct. 19, 8 p.m.
Outer Limits Lounge 5507 Caniff St., Hamtramck Greater Hamtramck Area

Detroit punk band Paint Thinner has been putting in the work. The band only released its first LP, The Sea of Pulp, in February, and is already dropping follow-up Hagioscope to the Heart this week, with a record release show on Saturday. While the band is new-ish to the scene, its members are not, featuring personnel from Detroit rock acts Terrible Twos, Fontana, Frustrations, and Human Eye. On Hagioscope, you can hear the band flexing: “Sue” is a nearly six-and-a-half-minute slow-burn, while “Vision Quest” ratchets up the tension with screaming vocals with a hypnotic bassline. “This isn’t anger, and this isn’t escapism. This is catharsis,” the band writes on its Bandcamp page. “Hagioscope is perhaps best understood as the sound of a band becoming, however unwillingly, comfortable with themselves.” Milk Bath and X! Records head honcho Scott X! are also on the bill.
