Kate Nash

Sat., April 21, 8 p.m.

2008 was the year for British songstresses. Adele released 18, Duffy dropped her earworm “Mercy”, and Kate Nash made waves with her sleeper hit “Foundations.” Nash has topped her share of international charts, but has remained pretty low-key until now. Thanks to crowdfunding efforts, the singer returned last month with her fourth studio album, Yesterday Was Forever. In addition to her sardonic pop music, the 30-year-old has also been spending some time on screen, most recently as Rhonda “Britannica” Richardson on the Netflix original series Glow. $25-$30

RJ Spangler and John "Tbone" Paxton

Sat., April 21, 2-5 p.m.
phone 734-663-1202
rjspd9@gmail.com

Detroit drummer/bandleader/music activist, and Tbone Paxton, trombone/vocals, expect to cover a lot of musical ground on a Saturday afternoon. Adding saxophonists Dan Bennett and Goode Wyche III, they will be performing swing and on up to more modern types of jazz, some of it inspired by the addition of percussionist Akunda Hollis. From Fats Waller and Duke Ellington to some beautifully melodic South African jazz that RJ, Tbone, and Akunda have been exploring since the 1980s, they will add some swinging blues numbers for good measure. Band members Matt LoRusso, guitar, and Jeff Cuny, string bass, round out the group. $10 cover
