Detroit Music Weekend

Sun., June 17

The return of Detroit Music Weekend is upon us and once again, it’s all about the legends. This year’s guests of honor and festival headliners, the Jacksons, will receive the key to the city and will perform a free 75-minute set on Saturday. The late Jackson brother and King of Pop Michael will also be honored with a street-naming ceremony. In addition to the star-powered lineup (Jeff Daniels, Mark Farner, and the Craig Brown Band are among the hundreds of artists scheduled) DMW will also feature more than 100 restaurants and vendors extending from Music Hall to Capitol Park. event is free and open to the public

Thunderpussy

Mon., June 18, 7 p.m.

What’s in a name, anyway? Though there may be a brewing Supreme Court battle that will determine whether these Seattle rockers can trademark “Thunderpussy,” the band’s raucous output is far more interesting. Earlier this year, the quartet who often refer to themselves as “diamonds in the muff” released their Greatest Tits EP, which served as a “taste tester, tongue teaser, titty twister,” to their newly released self-titled album with tracks like “Velvet Noose” and “Utero Tango.” Known for their “role-reversed cock-rock,” Thunderpussy will get you hyped on their high-energy, unapologetic, hypersexual bravado. $15-$18
