Feelin’ Real Good

Sat., May 25, 12 p.m.

It could be suggested that the secret to feeling good comes down to two things: tacos and good tunes.

While Movement Electronic Music Fest pulses on along the riverfront on Saturday, homegrown indie label Ghostly International will team up with the cool kids over at SMPFLD clothing and party pros Haute to Death for "Feelin’ Real Good" — a free dance-filled, salsa-covered celebration of Detroit electronic music.

The lineup includes DJ’s Drunkmom, Ladylike, Charles Trees, Ali Berger, Ash Nowak, Jon Dones, and Scott Zacharias + Bill Spencer, and tacos.

Did we mention tacos?

Event begins at noon; 1480 Gratiot Ave., Detroit; facebook.com/smplfdclothing. Event is free.

Tim Meadows

Sat., May 25, 8 p.m.

If you were getting it on in the ’90s, you likely took advice from Leon Phelps — the Ladies Man. The iconic character brought to life by comedian Tim Meadows during his 10-year run on Saturday Night Live is, to this day, one of the worst authorities on getting lucky.

However, for the Highland Park native who recently laid some Detroit roots with a home downtown, it’s been more about hard work than luck. (Just scroll through his 89 IMDB credits, which includes Principal Duvall in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls.) Known for his subtlety, Meadows has paved the way for the next generation of unsuspecting comedic scene-stealers. You can catch him perform an intimate gig at Ann Arbor's Blind Pig on Saturday.

Doors open at 8 p.m.; 208 S. First St., Ann Arbor; 734-996-8555; blindpigmusic.com. Tickets are $20-$25.

Pride and Joy

Fri., May 24, 8 p.m., Sat., May 25, 2 & 8 p.m., Sun., May 26, 3 p.m., Thu., May 30, 8 p.m., Fri., May 31, 8 p.m., Sat., June 1, 2 & 8 p.m. and Sun., June 2, 3 & 7:30 p.m.

It’s no secret that Motown’s Marvin Gaye was masterful at creating iconic and very sensual love songs. Pride & Joy: The Marvin Gaye Musical gives some context as to how the legend has become a posthumous romantic revolutionary.

Set against the sociopolitical backdrop of the 1960s, the musical features 28 songs spanning Gaye’s catalog as well as the Motown songbook. Pride & Joy also focuses on his early career as a session musician at Berry Gordy’s Hitsville USA, where he would eventually go on to record What’s Going On and meet his first wife and Gordy’s sister, Anna.

Opening night begins at 8 p.m. and runs through Sunday, June 2; 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit; 313-872-1000. See broadwayindetroit.com for full schedule. Tickets are $41+.
