Karen A.D. Burton and Saundra Little will present a history and exploration of the influence of African American architects on the evolution of the built environment in Detroit. According to the National Organization of Minority Architects, fewer than two percent of licensed architects in the United States are African American. In 2016, Saundra and Karen launched “Noir Design Parti,” a Knight Arts Challenge winning project that explores how black architects helped shape the physical identity and landscape of Detroit. Blind artist Brendan Patrick and MATI group to host blind-folded art show at Tangent Gallery in Support of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (Detroit, Michigan) On September 30, Blind Artist Brendan Patrick and the MATI Group will be hosting a night of art at the TANGENT GALLERY in Detroit. For a $5 dollar entrance fee, patrons will watch a collective of blind folded artists create work live. The works will be auctioned off at the end of the evening. All proceeds from the art and door will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. $5

Sukkah X Detroit

Through Sept. 30, 6 p.m.

Five to seven sukkahs, selected through Detroit’s largest international design competition, will be displayed in Detroit’s historic Capitol Park, accompanied by complementary programs and events. Design drawings and renderings will be exhibited at Eastern Market After Dark in Shed 3 on September 20th. This weeklong event provides an opportunity for all to explore the relevance of an ancient ritual in a contemporary urban environment, and to showcase Detroit on a national and international stage.
