Detroit is blessed to have Big Sean in our corner. Enter the first annual Detroit’s on Now Weekend — a celebration of life in the neighborhoods and a tribute to Detroiters. The “Blessings” rapper will host a series of youth engagement events as well as the celebration kickoff with a private fundraiser for the Motown Museum, followed by a two-day fashion mogul challenge presented by Puma at the Charles H. Wright Museum. On Saturday, the Ford Resource and Engagement Center will host a block party. free

Inkster's Juneteenth Celebration

The City of Inkster and the Middle Park Manor Block Club, invites the community to their first ever Juneteenth celebration of heritage, culture and empowerment. Guests will learn about the importance and history of the event while enjoy an afternoon of cultural entertainment. Also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, the event commemorates the June 19, 1865, as the day the Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas – the last state to comply. The news moved slowly and didn't reach Texas until May 1865 and wasn’t put into effect until June 19. free
