Dr. Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham (Harvard University) and Dr. Pero Dagbovie (Michigan State University) will discuss the importance of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the founder of Black History Month, and making his name and works more widely known. Formed two years ago during the New York Philharmonic’s 175th season by four of the orchestra’s principal musicians — concertmaster Frank Huang, principal associate concertmaster Sheryl Staples, principal viola (and U-M alumna) Cynthia Phelps, and principal cello Carter Brey — the New York Philharmonic String Quartet makes its UMS debut.
