Ooh La La Lucha
@ Saint Andrews Hall -
For the past three years, the folks who run Imperial, Public House, and Working Class Outlaws have put on an event that marries burlesque and lucha libre, a fantastic match, in our humble opinion. The event also features Mexican beer, food by Imperial chef Brandon Zarb, tequila, and fortune-telling. Wasabassco Burlesque and the Benson Twins will provide tantalizing entertainment between masked wrestling matches, one of which will feature former WWE star Zach Gowen.
Doors open at 8 p.m.; 431 E. Congress St., Detroit; ticketmaster.com; 248-850-8060; tickets are $30.
Friday, May 6th -
Alton Brown
@ Fox Theatre -
Food Network fans, this event is for you. As much as wed like Barefoot Contessa Queen Ina Garten to grace us with her fabulous presence, we are getting the next best thing, and that is food nerd Alton Brown. Hes touring behind the show Eat Your Science. Its filled with comedy, talk show antics, multimedia tricks, and of course, cooking. Brown digs deep into the science of cooking, something that has become a trendy topic in the last few years. Brown will also pick random audience members to come up onstage and help out in his crazy experiments, so if youve ever wanted to assist a celebrity chef, now is your chance.

Nancy Mitchnick: Uncalibrated
@ Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit -
Nancy Mitchnick was born right here in Detroit, and her artwork reflects the city and her own personal life in many ways. MOCAD is presenting her work in a new exhibition called Nancy Mitchnick: Uncalibrated. As a painter, Mitchnick draws inspiration from her childhood, living as a struggling artist in the Cass Corridor in the 70s, and being a woman in the art world. Her paintings resemble photograph stills, but they seem more alive than any photograph.
Public preview begins at 7 p.m.; 4454 Woodward Ave., Detroit; mocadetroit.org; 313-832-6622; free but $5 suggested donation from 7-9 p.m.; $7 after 9 p.m. Photo via mocadetroit.org.

Marlon Wayans
@ the Fillmore Detroit -
If you dont recognize Marlon Wayans from his famous last name (all of his siblings are celebrities), then you may recognize him from the hilarious movies that hes starred in. Wayans is the king of the spoof Scary Movie franchise, and he and his brother starred in one of our favorite movies of all time, White Chicks. Wayans seems to be taking a break from in front of the camera and is going back to his comedic roots: stand-up. You wont want to miss Wayans unique outlook and observations about the world around him.
Starts at 7 p.m.; 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit; thefillmoredetroit.com; 313-961-5451; tickets are $40.

@ Fox Theatre -
Jay Leno, in case you didnt know, is a longtime fan of metro Detroit. The classic car fanatic loves the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, as well as John K. King Books. Hes complimented the citys historic buildings, and loves our industrial history. Suffice to say, hell have plenty of Detroit-related material when he performs at the Fox this Saturday. Its the funnymans 24th annual Forgotten Harvest Comedy Night. For the price of admission youll get tons of laughs and many local families in need.

Kiss Me Kate
@ McMorran Place -
The Port Huron Civic Theatre is producing onehit musical after the other, and this spring they are performing the Broadway classic Kiss Me, Kate. For a show that was originally produced in the 1940s, it was very original and different, compared to other musicals of the period such as Oklahoma. Essentially, it is a play within a play. The plot is about the directors and stars of the cast of Shakespeares The Taming of the Shrew and all of the drama that comes with relationships and working closely with other people.
Shows at 8 p.m. on May 6 and 7, 3 p.m. on May 8; 701 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron; mcmorran.com; 810-985-6166; tickets are $10.
Saturday, May 7 -
Koi Transfer
@ Belle Isle Aquarium -
A school of large, colorful koi fish live in the pond between the Belle Isle Aquarium and the Conservatory. During the summer months, they greet visitors and practically nip their toes in expectation of some breadcrumbs or other bits of chum. Come the colder months, the koi are transferred indoors where they can live throughout the winter season. But, once the weather turns warm, the folks at the Belle Isle Conservancy, along with a host of volunteers, move the koi back to the pond, where they can live out their summer days. Those hoping to help move the fish are asked to bring a 5-gallon bucket, and we suggest wearing some big rubber gloves, too.
Starts at 10 a.m.; Belle Isle Aquarium, Inselruhe Ave.; belleisleconservancy.org; 313-331-7760; free.
Saturday, May 7 -
Spring Mead Fest
@ B. Nektar Meadery -
These days there are, like, a zillion beer fests that happen all over the state and thats great. Trust us, theres no one who loves craft beer like the folks who work at the Metro Times. Of course, its nice to switch things up every once in awhile, and the Spring Mead Fest thats taking place at B. Nektar Meadery in Ferndale (our neighbor, of sorts) is doing just that. The craft meadery will have two special releases on hand Miltons Madness: I Said NO Salt and the Zombies take Manhattan plus a selection of meads, ciders, beers, and cocktails. There will also be food from the Shimmy Shack, Slows to Go, Hero or Villian Food Truck, Delectabowl, and Treat Dreams. There will also be entertainment will be provided by Detroits Duende, Dutch Pink, and AwesomeR.

Crusin' for the Trails
@ Clubhouse BFD
The fund-raising event Cruisin' for the Trails is being put on by Motor City Brew Tours, whose Steve Johnson tells us the country is especially beautiful this time of year, which makes this Oakland County ride one of the more unusual ones of the year. There will be a supply-and-gear stop at a cider mill, where theyll be serving donuts and New Belgium beer. The majority of riders will head back to Rochester to complete the 17-mile there-and-back trip, but some riders will continue on to Lake Orions 51 North Brewing Company. Those who return to Clubhouse BFD can find a party area, tent and all, adjoining the patio where the cyclists enjoy a post-ride party.
Starts at 9:30 a.m.; 2265 Crooks Rd. Rochester Hills; https://www.eventbrite.com/e/motor-city-bike-brew-tours-spring-charity-bike-ride-may-7-2016-tickets-19658906318; tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of.

Sound of Music
@ Fisher Theatre -
Is there a musical more seminal than Sound of Music? Filled with classic songs like Do Re Me and The Hills Are Alive, its hard to think of a musical that has touched the public consciousness as much as this one. Follow the wayward governess Maria as she mentors the Von Trapp children, teaching them to love music and outdoor play. Things get hairy, though, when she falls in love with Captain Von Trapp, and even more hairy when the Nazis take over Austria. Youll laugh, youll cry, youll fall in love.
Show starts at 8 p.m.; 3011 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit; broadwayindetroit.com; 313-872-1000; tickets are $39-$100.
