Thank you for being faithful, loyal MT supporters all year long!
We know that every coming day this week is a special shopping day: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Tithing Sunday (right?), Cyber Monday, Tech (or is it Giving?) Tuesday — does the planned money-spending ever end? No. Not till that special Buy-Nothing Day that comes ... when? We don't quite remember. For some, that's every day but pay day.
But we do remember that really, shopping for others is the noblest form of consumerism there is. Actively seeking out that perfect gift to express your affection for someone ... we think that's pretty damn cool. That's why we have an annual Gift Guide.
And what could be better than annual giving? Only taking that philosophy with you all year long.
For example, why Shop Local only this Saturday? There are plenty of sweet local metro Detroit business you can shop at year-round. And as much fun as Target is, we think local businesses are way more fun — and more personal, too. There are also lots of online retailers in Michigan and metro Detroit — so no, you don't need to drive up to Mackinac just to get some Mackinac fudge.
We've included those special local retailers and products here, and we've also included local charities that accept donations and volunteers, too. 'Tis the season for giving, and even if you don't have the spare change, you might have a coat, a blanket, or a few hours of time for your fellow Detroiters. It's the little acts of giving in unexpected ways that can have the greatest impact—Never underestimate the power of a well-placed gift.
