It may be a man’s world, but we all know it’d be nothing without women or girls. But when it comes to the world of soul and funk? Well, women have always held high court.

In conjunction with Willis Show Bar’s one-year anniversary, Willa Rae will lead a celebration of the incredible contributions by music royalty Gladys Knight, Etta James, Chaka Khan, and of course, our queen, Aretha Franklin. Keyandra Patton and Nina Sofia will take the mic with support from Willis Show Bar regulars Tariq Gardner, Jabari Reynolds, and Mario Sulaksana.

A Tribute to the women of soul and funk performances begin at 8, 10, and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Willis Show Bar; 4156 Third St., Detroit; 313-788-7469; willisshowbar.com. Tickets are $5-$8.
