George Clinton will bring a final round of funk to metro Detroit for farewell tour

The last time Metro Times checked in with the "Prime Minister of Funk" George Clinton, it was in 2016 and, at the time, he was awaiting the arrival of aliens.

"I'm positive — they're gonna show up, or we're going to show up to them," the honorary Detroiter said of our extraterrestrial neighbors. "I think we've already been infected with alien genes and DNA."

While the wait for aliens continues, Clinton's retirement grows nearer, as evidenced by his final tour with the Parliament Funkadelic. As one would expect, the 77-year-old will put funk to rest in style with the "One Nation Under a Groove" tour. The North American leg of the tour will find Clinton and P-Funk hitting the road just after Memorial Day weekend, along with Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk, and Miss Velvet and the Blue Wolf. They'll land the mothership at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill on June 20.

Tickets ($29.50) go on sale on Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased here.
