The Detroit Institute of Music Education has been a stalwart figure in the growth and grooming of Detroit area musicians. Having taken the likes of Metro Times cover girl and American Idol runner-up Jena Irene Ascuitio under its wing, each year the school preps and primes aspiring superstars for the spotlight.

In continuing with their student sessions compilation series, DIME will release its fourth volume with a party and performances by Ally Evenson, Al'Exist, Olive, Roy 3pOiNtOh and more this Friday, Aug. 24.

The release coincides with the announcement of the DIME's artists in residence for the 2018-2019 academic year including Detroit's Queen of Blues Thornetta Davis, bassist Kern Brantley who has worked with Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, as well as Motown music composer Paul Riser.

DIME's Sessions Volume 4 release will take place on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.; 1265 Griswold St., Detroit; 313-223-1600; dime-detroit.com; Event is free and open to the public.
