Performing in the cramped quarters of the NPR offices has become an unlikely rite of passage for indie musicians and mainstream greats alike. Everyone from Randy Newman, St. Vincent, Chance the Rapper, and Steve Martin have taken to the NPR Tiny Desk stage — er, desk — and now a handful of metro Detroit hopefuls are vying for their chance.

During the contest showcase hosted by WDET and Otus Supply, rock songstress Steffanie Christi’an, shoegaze soul outfit Young Punk, folk-pop artist Zander Michigan, and singer-songwriter Greater Alexander will strum their stuff to land the coveted gig.

NPR Tiny Desk Contest Detroit Showcase will take place at 8 p.m. tonight at Otus Supply; 345 E. Nine Mile Rd, Ferndale; 248-291-6160;; Tickets are $10-$15.
