Although her debut album Ctrl is only two months old, SZA (pronounced Sizza) is making waves as a neo-soul, alternative R&B siren. Earning herself an MTV Music Video Award nomination for “Best New Artist” (a category she shared with breakout star Noah Cyrus, but lost to Khalid), SZA’s opulent arrangements and diary entry rawness have kickstarted what is shaping up to be one hell of a career. Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and Pharrell all lend a hand on Ctrl but it’s clear that SZA’s success is a direct result of her tender and brazen prowess.
SZA performs tomorrow night, Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Fillmore. Doors open at 7 p.m. 2115 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Tickets start at $56. For more info call 313-961-5451 or go to thefillmoredetroit.com.
