Lil Yachty brings bubblegum trap to Royal Oak

Posted By on Sun, Aug 27, 2017 at 1:24 PM

This 19-year-old wunderkind may be the new kid on the rap block, but don’t for a second think that Lil Yachty doesn’t understand the game. Coining the phrase “bubblegum trap” to describe his sound, his 2017 debut record Teenage Emotions appropriately doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Yachty samples Super Mario Bros, the Rugrats theme, and GameCube console blips and bloops, yet features big names by the likes of Migos, Diplo, and YG. Yachty’s pubescent blend of innocence and thug life is a breath of fresh air.

Lil Yachty will perform at Royal Oak Music Theatre on Monday, Aug. 28.  Doors open at 7 p.m.; 318 W. Fourth Street, Royal Oak; 248-399-2980; royaloakmusictheatre.com; Tickets are $26.50 in advance, $30 day of show.
