I've been a fan of the Sun City Girls since I first saw them in 1982, and love guitarist Richard Bishop enough that I released a solo record of his. And I adore percussionist Chris Corsano, as he is on a thousand records and I've yet to hear a bad one. And the same can be said for Ben Chasny (but with fewer releases) and all of his work going back to the first Comets on Fire and Six Organs records. Somehow, I didn't pay too much attention to their band Rangda, at first. I have no idea why. They're onto their fourth LP now, and I am extremely excited to see them play the Marble Bar on Wednesday, March 9.

Shells is opening, so get there early. There's a "punk band on DFA" in-between the two acts, so fingers crossed they're not bad. They're called Guerilla Toss.
As I wrote in my blurb this week, "These are absolute shredders with dozens of musical vocabularies available at any moment. Rangda just might be the best supergroup since Blind Faith. Pitchfork saddled their new album The Heretic’s Bargain (Drag City) with a 7.5, but it’s clearly an 11. The album starts with a Moroccan motorik surf-rock corker, 'To Melt the Moon,' and ends with a blissed and baked journey to the center of your mind called 'Mondays Are Free at the Hermetic Museum.'"
