Is Kid Rock beating the scalpers? TickPick thinks so

Posted By on Tue, Mar 31, 2015 at 7:16 AM

Earlier, we gave props to Kid Rock for fighting the concert ticket-industrial complex by scheduling back-to-back gigs at DTE Energy Music Theatre. With a total of eight shows and plenty of cheap tickets available at $20 a pop, the plan was designed to thwart scalpers — by increasing supply, Kid Rock reasoned, he could decrease demand for resale tickets and therefore deter scalping.

Did it work? TickPick, a secondary ticket marketplace, weighed in on the scheme. Currently, secondary market values for Kid Rock's shows are $48 at the low end, with an average price of $256, or 13 times the original price. Yikes.

However, TickPick notes that if you considered all of the tickets available on the secondary market for the shows, they would barely fill up the first two sections of the venue. In other words, 96 percent of all available tickets went straight to fans, at $20 each. Mission accomplished.
