Sufjan Stevens to play hometown gig

Posted By on Tue, Jan 27, 2015 at 11:57 AM

Sufjan Stevens has announced a new album, Carrie & Lowell, which drops March 31, and he has a slew of tour dates to support it. The singer-songwriter will play a hometown gig at the Masonic Temple on Monday, April 27 (he lived in Detroit until moving to Petoskey, Mich., at age 9). Meanwhile, fans on the other side of the state can catch Stevens closer to home on Tuesday, April 28 at the Covenant Fine Arts Center in Grand Rapids. Presale tickets and additional info are available here.

In 2003, Stevens got buzz for his "50 states project," in which he claimed he would write an album about every U.S. state. The first release was Michigan, dedicated to Steven's home state. After following up with Illinois, Stevens (perhaps wisely) scrapped the entire project (or maybe it was all just a PR gimmick in the first place). Check out "Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head! (Rebuild! Restore! Reconsider!)" from Michigan below.
