City Slang: High Spirits at Smalls

Posted By on Thu, Apr 10, 2014 at 8:55 AM

Chicago-based band High Spirits will play at Small’s in Hamtramck on Friday, April 18. The bill will also feature Ft. Wayne band Lurking Corpses, and Dark Psychosis.

Though High Spirits are coming from Chi-Town, drummer Ian Sugierski is a Detroiter, and formerly a member of Wolfbait, the Meatmen, Blue Snaggletooth and many more.

The band describes itself as, “100% HIGH-ENERGY ROCK MUSIC!!!,” and says that, “HIGH SPIRITS began in Chicago in early 2009 with a series of fun songwriting sessions and demo recordings. Soon, there were 10 songs recorded, enough for an album. It was released as a plain white-label LP at the first HIGH SPIRITS live show, which was in August of 2009. Only a handful copies sold that night, but the rest sold quickly through the mail to fans all over the world.”

Cover is $8, or $10 for 18-21s. Visit the Small’s website or the High Spirits Facebook page for more info.
