City Slang: Marshall Crenshaw to headline Michigan State Fair

Power-pop legend Marshall Crenshaw will headline the fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair on Labor Day weekend at the Suburban Collection Showplace, Novi.

They say, “The 2013 State Fair, now a private entity, will be a time to celebrate all the magnificent products, people and music of our great state. The common thread for all the music offered on Fair stages this year is Michigan roots!
“Saturday night headliner and Berkley native Marshall Crenshaw burst on the national scene in 1982 with his self-titled debut album in 1982, which was was hailed by critics as a pop masterpiece and included the breakout hit “Someday, Someway”.
“Friday’s headliner, beloved Michigan son Stewart Francke, originally hails from Saginaw, and now resides in Royal Oak. His first album, Where the River Meets the Bay (1995), contained the hit single, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," made famous through its use as an episode theme for the TV show Melrose Place.”
