Lyman Woodard's Drummers' Night Dance Party

Posted By on Thu, Dec 6, 2012 at 5:10 PM

This year, the organization dedicated to the memory of jazz man Lyman Woodard will bring out the drums. We're talking serious trapsmen with penchant for pounding. The Lyman Woodard Organization for the Arts launches its inaugural season with an encore presentation of the Drummers’ Nite Out Dance Party, where aficionados of the rhythm section can check out some of metro Detroit's most prolific drummers, and everybody else can just get down.

The event features Leonard King on trap set and vocals, Mark Stone on mallet synthesizer, Ozzie Rivera and Javier Barrios on timbales and congas, Diego Melendez on bongos, Gregory King on alto sax, Mahindi Masai on djembe drum, and Jerry LeDuff and Miguel Gutierrez on percussion.

It happens from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit, 111 E. Kirby St., Detroit; $10 for adults, $2 for children 12 and younger; dancing encouraged; light refreshments; ample, free, lighted parking is available in the Institute’s lot; for additional info email
