Crime and the City Solution: A (Re)Introduction -10.19.12 w/American Mars - D.I.A.

This road is our road...all will be explained...

From Syndey to Melbourne, London to Berlin... and now on to Detroit, these outsiders to the post-punk party through the early-mid 80's and not quite moody-chic enough for any of those new-wave groovers, Crime and the City Solution sees resurgence in this century's second decade.

This is pretty much beautiful-brood rock royalty (should you dig back deep enough into their history--uncovering ties to Nick Cave's Birthday Party, Einsturzende Neubauten, Swell Maps and more) and now, Crime leader Simon Bonney has returned to the studio (and the road) along with longtime members/Crime-originals violinist Bronwyn Adams and guitarist Alexander Hacke and invited delegates from the distinguished Detroit rock scene like Troy Gregory and Matthew Smith (pivotal players to our town's own musical renaissance through the 00's). Also joining Bonney's refreshed ranks are notables like Jim White (who was just in town a month ago with his starkly stellar Dirty Three project) and equally esteemed avant-gardist David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Woven Hand).

Watch: Crime and the City Solution - "Six Bells Chime"

All of that - inside the ornately charmed setting of the Detroit Institute of Arts (Friday, October 19) and augmented by the stately atmospheric Americana warblings of our own American Mars.

Watch: American Mars - "Cutters"

Both bands are buoyed by recent releases: for Crime - a comp: A History of Crime: Berlin 1987 - 1991 and for Mars, an LP: Chasing Vapor

Music starts around 7:30 p.m. - more info from the DIA

Expect new recordings from this new Crime line-up in 2013.
