City Slang: Drew Podgorski keeps getting better

Posted By on Sun, Jul 31, 2011 at 10:05 AM

Back in April of this year, I wrote a piece about a benefit show for Drew Podgorski, the singer and guitarist from local punk bands Running With Panthers and Just Ask. Podgorski had suffered a stroke and was (and is) battling heroically through his tough-as-fuck rehabilitation.

I met Drew through a huge stroke of fortune. I had taken a job as a copy writer with an advertising agency (a whole other story), and Podgorski was at the same place – a fellow freak in a corporate world. My instincts were correct too - since leaving that world, Podgorski has stayed in touch with me despite his medical problems.

So anyway, on Saturday night I bumped into Drew in Ferndale. It’s a pleasure to report that the man is doing incredibly well. There’s still a cane, but he’s obviously getting close to throwing it away. His good lady, Natalie, has, he says, been his rock throughout the whole shitty experience. Ain’t it amazing, what love can do? (The couple is pictured above - photo by Monica Breen)

Drew Podgorski then – one of the toughest, most inspiring motherfuckers you could ever hope to meet. Here he is performing with Running With Panthers at the 2009 Blowout.
