Watch DAAS Choir Performing "Detroit State of Mind"

Every now and again a new music video hits the web and it immediately gives you a 1,000 watt smile. Watching students from the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences performing "Detroit State of Mind," their own personalized remix of Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" is exactly that type of video. It was part of a class assignment to show Detroit pride and has turned into a video that parents and youth across the city should be proud of. Regardless of your school affiliation, this one is worth celebrating.

Dare I say, this one actually invokes more pride than Ro Spit and Monica Blaire's local classic, "Renaissance State of Mind" from last year.

It'll be interesting to see if any other local students from area schools attempt to top what the DAAS Choir created. We all know there's no shortage of music talent in the city. I hope the youth in the D keep remixing songs and witness the power they've got inside of them.
