The nominations for this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony were announced earlier today. The Stooges are back on the list, after being nominated and rejected (who the fuck makes these decisions anyway?) two years ago. Also on this year's ballot: Run-D.M.C., Metallica, Jeff Beck, "female Elvis" Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony & the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack and Chic. The five winners will be announced in January and inducted on April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.

This is the first time the inductions have been held in Cleveland in more than a decade.

The question, though, is: Why should anybody give a fuck at this point in time. Yeah, the Stooges. When it comes to rock 'n' roll, they certainly should have had to wait all these years for an induction 'cause they got so little to do with the form known as rock 'n' roll, right? And even if they do get in this year (I'm betting they will), it will hardly make up for the ignoring thus far of the MC5, Mitch Ryder, Grand Funk Railroad, Alice Cooper, the New York Dolls...hell, even the Monkees or Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, for that matter.

Fuck the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As Iggy Pop said to me over a decade ago when discussing the subject during his "Naughty Little Doggie" tour: "Well, my manager is in tight with some of those people, and I guess they've said, 'The Stooges, never! Never! Iggy, maybe -- if he's a good boy. And if he doesn't title albums Naughty Little Doggie!'" He laughed. "Maybe if I'd have called it something like Fucking Heroic Young Record Executive instead!"

Speaking of "Terrible" Ted, btw, as we just were above, the Motor City Madman offered an aid of security to Paul McCartney today, despite the latter's strong support of animal rights; Macca's been threatened by Muslim extremists if he plays a concert in Israel to celebrate Israel’s 60th birthday. Wrote Nugent to the former Beatle: “Regardless that Paul and I have our obvious social, cultural, and culinary differences outside of music, I will not bend or waiver to voodoo religious whackjobs and neither should Paul. It would be my pleasure to keep this legendary musical hero safe from terrorists and madmen, and then buy him a nice dinner of tofu. I’m Dirty Harry with a ponytail, and I’m at Paul’s service."

Whatever, dude...

The Stooges: no rockers here...
